Description
Small groups of students will identify artifacts, or images of artifacts that were used by various First Peoples’ groups, and use these artifacts as evidence to tell us about the lives of the people.

•familiarity with selected First Peoples’ artifacts, or images of artifacts. Artifacts may have been presented at the beginning of the unit. (Using the artifacts as evidence to make predictions about the lives of these people.)
Detailed Instructions
1. After studying First Peoples’ Cultural Groups, student groups will examine three artifacts that were used by First Peoples, and using the evidence criteria, make observations about how they lived. (For example: Inuit – snow goggles, Haida – Totem poles).
2. Teachers give an example of what is expected through discussion, or on the board.
3. Groups of students use the evidence criteria and the provided chart to record their observations of First Peoples’ ways of life.
4. As a class, compare and discuss the completed charts.
